Fully Fund Our Schools!
The Northampton Association of School Employees and Northampton Public Schools have made significant progress in the negotiation of our new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). On April 14, 2022 the School Committee voted for a larger budget for the schools than the mayor allotted. This is a HUGE victory. Now we need to convince the city council to approve this budget. This also means putting pressure on the mayor to present a budget that fully funds the schools.
Mayor Sciarra claims to be a “champion” of our public schools and says that she supports maintaining excellence in our public schools. The mayor’s budget, despite these claims, did not allot for a raise for our employees. Over the past 2 years school employees have worked tirelessly, going above and beyond their job requirements, and sacrificing their own health and time to shepherd the city’s children through a crisis. After the pandemic the mayor is now digging in and offering insulting pay raises that amount to pennies. Our educators deserve to be paid fair wages, and to be adequately compensated for their commitment and expertise.
Please stand with Northampton educators and hold our elected officials accountable to our values. Ask them to make a commitment to ensure educators receive the wages we deserve!
