Geary Deserves Bus Shelters at Every Stop!

Diagram of proposed bus shelters between 25th and Arguello along Geary.

Next Wednesday, July 24th, SF Public Works will hold a hearing on the placement and installation of eight replacement bus shelters on Geary between Arguello and 25th Avenue. If approved, almost every 38/38R stop along this stretch will have a bus shelter again.

Unfortunately, recent hearings to approve bus shelters have seen some community opposition, which can delay or even prevent shelters from being installed. The story of why shelters have to be approved twice‚—once at the SFMTA Board and again in a SF Public Works hearing‚—is long, but this double jeopardy has allowed a tiny minority of residents to skip the SFMTA process and bring their opposition to typically poorly-attended SF Public Works hearings. We want to make sure such opposition doesn’t stall progress next week.
