H.1222: An Act Providing Full Representation on The University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees.

The UMass Board of Trustees is a powerful governing body that impacts the lives of students across the UMass system. They vote on important issues such as university policies and governing documents, the creation of student support centers and services, all university fees, and most importantly, they vote on our tuition. Each campus elects and sends a Student Trustee to represent the interests of the student body of that campus. The issue is, each year, only two of those students can vote. This means that the majority of the UMass campus' are unable to vote on issues directly impacting them each year.

There is currently a bill before the Joint Committee on Higher Education that will grant full voting membership to all five student trustees, but is currently at risk of not receiving a hearing due to lack of interest. Please send a letter to these Senators and Representatives to urge them to schedule a hearing and ultimately pass this bill
