Help Pennsylvania's lawmakers center racial justice at the heart of Pennsylvania's policies
Pennsylvania can do better when it comes to making sure our policies are fair for all Pennsylvanians. Nationally, there is a clear disparity in the way we imprison people of color. Let's give lawmakers the tools they need to analyze the implications of policies created in Harrisburg. In order for legislators to apply the guidance suggested by the Justice Reinvestment Initiative in 2012 and again in 2017, they need to see how current policies will impact communities of color.
SB 206 would allow lawmakers to request a racial impact study before a bill left the Senate committee and was heard on the floor. Much like financial impact statements, racial impact statements would help lawmakers make informed decisions on policies by assessing the implications for our communities of color.
