Highway Access Ramps in Hunts Point

The highway plan for the Hunts Point peninsula is under review – and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is advancing a proposal that has long been opposed by the Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance (SBRWA) and the Environmental Justice community we represent.

On June 1st NYSDOT released the draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the “Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project”, a plan to build highway access ramps at Edgewater Road. This document reveals that the proposed plan would create a wall and divide Garrison and Hunts Point Riverside Parks from the neighborhood. It would also take part of Concrete Plant Park and the sites of local businesses.

This is our last chance to stop the state from implementing a plan that will harm our children's lungs and pollute our neighborhood.
