UPDATE!!! (4/10)

SSF City council agendized a ceasefire resolution!!! Councilmember Mark Nagales finally expressed support for the resolution. After nearly two months of organizing our community and mobilizing folks to city council meetings, our city council is set to vote on a resolution in the coming weeks. We need to continue the pressure and let the council know they are standing with humanity! After 6 months of the genocide in Gaza, paid for by our tax dollars, we need to pressure our federal government to stop their unconditional support of Israel through all available avenues.

We are planning big actions this week!! Stay informed here - changessf.carrd.co

Us as a community came out to the 3/13 and 3/27 city council meetings. During the 3/13 meeting, a number of Zionists from around the Bay Area, with a handful who work or live here, came to oppose the resolution and paint the action as useless and divisive when most of these voices have little to no affiliation with our SSF community. At the following 3/27 city council meeting, SSF residents in favor of a ceasefire resolution expressed their support while the Zionists present at the previous meeting were nowhere to be seen.

We need to show up and directly contact our city council members to show that this is what our community wants!

Update (2/28):

In the 2/28 City Council meeting, OVER 50 community members gave public comment in support of the resolution with NOT ONE comment in opposition. Even some community members present for an alternative issue expressed their support for the resolution.

Following public comment, councilmembers gave their comments.

  • 2 city councilmembers (Mark Addiego and James Coleman) expressed their support for agendizing and passing the resolution.
  • 2 city council members (Eddie Flores and Mark Nagales) said they want to still learn more and engage in conversations with the community.
  • 1 city councilmember (Flor Nicolas) did not address the room at all during her turn to speak.
The 4 city councilmembers were only addressing the public commenters and no resolution has been agendized yet, however the initial support and interest from council are hopeful signs.

We are asking to CONTINUE to email, call, and show up in SSF to DEMAND CEASEFIRE RESOLUTION! Continue to push! The situation is dire! The people of Gaza are starving!

~~~For the past FIVE months, we have called and emailed elected representatives and Congressmen countless times, yet everyone has failed to honor our demands for a PERMANENT bilateral cease-fire in Gaza which has taken over 30,000+ Palestinians' lives, 13,000+ of them being children. This failure of our higher up government officials to call for change has forced us to turn our pressure locally.
Change begins at the local level!!! Use this guideline we made to send emails to SSF city council members and ask for them to agendize a resolution to call for Permanent Bilateral Cease-fire in GAZA and immediate entry of humanity aid. THE PEOPLE OF GAZA ARE STARVING!
Passing a ceasefire resolution in South San Francisco provides extra protection to our Palestinian and MENSA (Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian) communities who are being targeted nationwide and would produce added pressure if SSF joins the chorus of other cities in the Bay Area (Richmond, Oakland, Chicago, and San Francisco among others) calling for an end to this U.S. funded genocide. Let's pass a ceasefire resolution in South City!!
CEASEFIRE NOW!
