Immigrant undocumented workers need unemployment insurance TODAY

THE HOUSE AND SENATE MUST SECURE UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE FOR IMMIGRANT UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS THIS SESSION

Our hard work is in jeopardy. Send a message to your legislators to support Unemployment Insurance for Immigrant Undocumented Workers!

Right now, legislators are running out of time to give House Bill 1095 and Senate Bill 5109 a hearing in the Appropriations and Ways & Means Committees. The Washington state Legislature has until February 5th to advance this legislation!

Washington state doesn’t function without immigrant workers. In fact, the American Immigration Council estimates that immigrants in Washington pay more than $1 billion in taxes annually. Despite paying into the state coffers, undocumented immigrant workers cannot access unemployment insurance if they lose their job through no fault of their own.

Everyone who pays their taxes while working should be able to count on getting the help they need if they’re laid off by their bosses. But right now, tens of thousands of Washington state residents who work are barred from receiving unemployment benefits because of their immigration status.

We’re coming together to make this right by passing House Bill 1095 and Senate Bill 5109 to extend unemployment benefits to undocumented immigrants who work and pay taxes here in our state. Join us by sending a message of support to your state legislators now.
