We are demanding that our employer provide basic safety equipment on the job and reimburse us for damage to our own equipment when they won't lend us theirs.
As reporters and photographers we frequently cover dangerous events such as ice storms, wildfires and other extreme situations. The Austin American-Statesman refuses to guarantee us company- issued safety equipment or pair us with a colleague to keep each other safe.
We are committed to covering news even when it puts us in harms way. The Austin American-Statesman should meet our dedication with these basic safeguards.
