We deserve better: no tax break for a project that excludes Lynn renters

Our city council is about to vote on a $45 million tax break for multi-millionaire developers who want to put 850 super expensive luxury apartments on the Lynnway. The small number of "affordable" apartments in their plan* aren't even truly affordable: they will have rents up to around $2400/month for a household of four -- far out of reach for most renters in our city.
Speak out NOW and tell our City Council: no tax break for a project that will exclude most Lynn residents. Enter your information then click “start writing.”
This project has ZERO apartments affordable to the average Lynn renter. It repeats the mistakes of the South Boston Seaport: instead of creating a truly inclusive and integrated new neighborhood, it reserves even more of our city's waterfront for the wealthy. We'll end up with a highly segregated area with homes that are out of reach for most of the working class and low income renters who make up the majority of our diverse city.
The proposed deal was negotiated in secretive, closed door meetings with discussions reportedly beginning years ago. Now the plan has been made public and there’s a rush to get it approved immediately with little notice or debate.
We need development that is truly inclusive and that really benefits Lynn residents. The plan for this development CAN be adjusted to include some homes affordable for the average Lynn renter. Recent developments in other cities -- including Boston, which has higher development costs -- have included truly affordable homes and allowed public input. Our city council should postpone the vote so the plan can be revamped to truly benefit Lynn residents.
* The current plan says 10% of the apartments will be affordable to a household at 60% AMI, which means an income of over $89,000/year for a household of 4.
