Medicare For All - The Time Has Come

It is time for ALL New Jersey Democrats

to support Medicare for All!

Medicare for All is an effective and affordable replacement to our current profit-based system. Even with the ACA, premiums and out-of-pocket expenses are rising rapidly as coverages decrease; as a result, untreated illnesses, medical debts and the number of uninsured are increasing. Medicare has a long history of working well for seniors and is the only sustainable solution.

It is not enough to resist Republican attacks on healthcare and try to save the ACA.

Our Democratic elected officials and congressional candidates must unite behind a Medicare for All healthcare system.

Under the current healthcare system, we are one diagnosis or injury away from financial catastrophe! According to the Center for American Progress, in 2019, a typical family of four will see a premium increase averaging $3,110 and a 55-year-old couple will see an average premium increase of $3,330.

These trends don’t have to continue – NJ and the U.S. can afford excellent, comprehensive healthcare for everyone. Other developed countries do it; we can, too!

Other industrialized nations are making the morally principled and financially responsible decision to provide universal health care to all of their people—and they do so while saving money by keeping people healthier. Those who say this goal is unachievable are selling the American people short. A Medicare for All system includes everyone, reduces administrative costs by about 30%, and it standardizes prices and coverage*.

Today 70 percent of Americans** (85% of Democrats and 52% of Republicans) support a single-payer health plan. In July 2018 House Democrats announced the formation of the Medicare for All caucus which will champion HR 676, the Expanded & Improved Medicare For All Act.  Tell Rep. Pallone (NJ-06), Rep. Pascrell (NJ-09) and Rep. Gottheimer (NJ-05) to join the two-thirds of House Democrats who support this bill and sign on as co-sponsors of HR 676!  In the Senate, Bernie Sander’s S.1804 - Medicare for All Act has 16 co-sponsors. Tell Sen. Menendez (D-NJ) to become a co-sponsor of this bill. There are currently two bills in the NJ Legislature: A2269 in the Assembly and S2598 in the Senate. Both bills advocate including all NJ residents in Medicare.

Medicare for All is simple, economical and humane. Be part of the movement and take a stand. Add your name to demand that all elected New Jersey Democrats from Congress to state legislature and all New Jersey Democratic congressional candidates stand with the majority of Americans and publicly support Medicare for All.

Healthcare is a basic human need. Thank you for taking action today.
