NO MORE 24 Hunger Strike and Next Steps

Home attendants on hunger strike to end the 24 hour work day.

On Monday, March 25th, 60 and 70-year-old home health care workers and their supporters ended a hunger striker after six days. The strikers stayed outside of City Hall day and night, through freezing temperatures and pouring rain to make sure that their message was heard: no one else should suffer through 24 hour shifts.

And their message was heard. Over sixty organizations came out in support, including NOW Suffolk, New York Taxi Workers Alliance, Downtown Nasty Women, Cross Union Retirees Organizing Committee, and Youth Against Sweatshops, just to name a few. The hunger strike was also reported by the New York Times, NY Magazine, AMNY, El Diario, AsAmNews, NY1, Democracy Now and CBS News.

Our City Council can end the 24 hour work day that deprives home attendant workers of their time, health, wages and dignity. Let our City Council know that we won't stand for that in our City. Ask them to sponsor Council Member Christopher Marte's No More 24 Bill today!
