Ohio - Abolish the Death Penalty in 2025/6

On June 16, 2026, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine called for the abolition of Ohio's death penalty.

In January of 2021, polling in Ohio found that 60% of Ohioans are in favor of repealing the death penalty. A majority of Ohioans agree that we don't need the death penalty. Bipartisan legislation has been introduced and is backed by a large and diverse coalition of organizations and individuals ready to make Ohio the next state to abolish its death penalty. Now is the time to let your state representative and senator know you support SB 259 and a House companion bill when such is introduced, legislation to end executions in Ohio.
