Oppose cuts to hunger programs

More than 40 million people could lose SNAP food assistance without a robust 2025-2026 budget.

As our leaders work through the FY25 budget resolution process, a proposal has emerged to cut $230 billion from agricultural programs. The majority of these cuts would target the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), potentially slashing it by over 20%. This could result in millions of low-income children losing access to vital school meals.

The proposed reductions threaten to cut benefits for all SNAP participants, increase work or bureaucratic requirements, remove nearly 9 million people from the program, or force states to cover benefit costs. Local food pantries and meal programs—many run by church communities like ours—will struggle to fill the gap if these cuts are enacted.

We encourage you to contact your elected officials and share your values and experiences with these programs. Personalize your message to urge them to reject these harmful cuts to essential nutrition programs.

Additionally, consider calling for a strong and robust Farm Bill, which governs federal policies on food and agriculture programs, including SNAP. Let’s raise our voices and stand together in advocating for our neighbors and our communities.

Please take a moment today to make your voice heard by contacting your representatives and urging them to oppose these dangerous cuts. Your action can make a real difference!
