Oppose PA House Bill 2169 - Tuition Vouchers
THIS IS THEIR PLAN.
As soon as TOMMORROW, state representatives plan to vote on a bill that will TAKE MONEY AWAY FROM PUBLIC SCHOOLS and spend it on tuition vouchers for unaccountable private and religious schools.
Their plan? Satisfy anti-public education political activists by siphoning tax dollars from school districts that need it most, and spending it on vouchers and “educational expenses” at private and religious schools.
This may be their plan, but it sure isn’t ours.
Contact your state representative today, and tell him or her to stop this nonsense and vote “NO” on House Bill 2169.
Here’s what you need to know about House Bill 2169.
- Parents whose children attend public schools in a school district that is among the lowest-performing 15 percent of school districts would be eligible for a voucher for tuition or other “educational expenses.”
- The tuition voucher could be used to pay tuition at a private, religious, or other public school and to cover books, uniforms, and other unaccountable expenses.
- Parents could even get their tuition voucher money deposited into an account where they can use a DEBIT CARD to pay private or religious school tuition or OTHER “EDUCATION EXPENSES,” potentially leading to millions of dollars in waste, fraud, and abuse.
- If parents don’t spend all of their tuition voucher money on K-12 private and religious schools, they can even use some of it to PAY FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE.
Tell your state representative that this is a BAD PLAN.
Lawmakers are supposed to do what’s right for students and educators and support professionals like US. They’re not supposed to use their offices to score points with anti-public education political groups and funders.
Let’s tell them that this is a BAD PLAN that hurts public education.
