Please Exempt Cannabis from Oakland's Nonsmoking Ordinance for Apartments
At its November 12 meeting, Oakland City Council will consider whether or not to exempt cannabis (or medical cannabis) from a citywide ban on smoking inside apartments in multi-unit buildings.
A ban on residential cannabis smoking would constitute a de facto ban on marijuana for many Oakland residents, especially those who cannot afford their own homes.
The exemption for cannabis has much opposition from well-funded anti-tobacco groups, even though the ordinance as written allows landlords and HOAs to ban cannabis smoking; it just doesn't mandate a ban citywide.
City Council needs to hear from Oakland residents who want to keep Oakland cannabis friendly.
