Prevent plastic burning in Sullivan County - say no to an incinerator!

Sullivan County has proposed a trash-to-fuel facility as a way to deal with the rising volume of garbage in the county. Unfortunately, there is a lot of plastic in the waste stream and burning plastics generates heavy metals, toxic air pollution, toxic ash, and greenhouse gas emissions that speed climate change. It is also expensive and can undermine mechanical recycling of non-plastic materials. Incinerators are also typically located in low-income and minority communities and perpetuate poverty and racial injustice. Sullivan County is home to a number of environmental justice communities already and does not deserve to be saddled with even more pollution and negative health impacts.

Please fill out the form to submit a public comment on the “Sullivan County Local Solid Waste Management Plan" sharing your opposition to building a so-called trash-to-fuel facility in Sullivan County by the Tuesday, October 15 deadline.
