Protect Local Control: NO to SB758

Senate Bill 758 usurps local control with its elimination of virtual learning days. This bill takes away school district's option for home-based learning in case of bad weather or other school closure. It even goes a step further and gives Ryan Walters and the State Board of Education the power to review district's decisions on virtual days and punish them with additional required calendar school days if they choose.
Benefits of Virtual Learning:
- Virtual learning days are part of a modern education, as many professional jobs now include some forms of remote work or virtual meetings
- Virtual learning allows districts to continue students' education even when the school building is closed.
- Educators benefit from an occasional remote learning day as well, as they have an opportunity to engage in peer-to-peer mentorship, planning, and training while still being available to support students.
It is important that local Superintendents and School Boards have the authority within their community to make these day-to-day decisions in the best interests of their students and families. Ask your State Senator for a NO vote on SB758.
