Protect Pollinators From Neonicotinoids

Massachusetts stands poised to become a leader in protecting bees, butterflies, birds and other pollinators from neonicotinoids (neonics), a known set of systemic toxic pesticides. With your help, we can and must persuade our representatives that these insecticides, the most widely used throughout the country, must be carefully regulated.

On October 3rd at 1 PM, there will be a hearing at the State House to discuss H.2113, An Act to protect Massachusetts pollinators. This bill, if passed, would require that:

  • neonicotinoids be applied only by certified applicators

  • pesticide applicators to give a property owner a notice of risks associated with neonicotinoids before use, and alternative products which could be used

  • seeds, plants, or other materials treated with neonicotinoids be labeled at point of sale

Although the EPA is unwilling to take action, we in Massachusetts can. But this bill will not pass without ample grassroots support. Therefore, we urge you to either:

1) submit a letter using our template

or

2) Attend the hearing next Tuesday, October 3d at the State House.
