Request for Uncommitted Movement to Remain Uncommitted
Why Is This Important
The Uncommitted Movement stands at a pivotal moment in advocating for true peace and justice. By maintaining our stance of being uncommitted, we ensure that our mission remains pure and focused on ending military aid that perpetuates violence in Gaza.
The negative stance towards third-party candidates and the indirect push to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris is not in alignment with many of the Uncommitted volunteers. Discouraging support for alternative voices forces voters to back candidates who do not fully share our anti-war values.
This approach weakens our movement by limiting political diversity and alienates members who seek real alternatives.
By directing support towards Harris, despite her unwillingness to end military aid to Israel, we compromise our mission and dilute our collective voice for peace and justice.
We respectfully request the following actions:
Immediate Clarification or Retraction of the Statement: We ask that the Uncommitted Movement leadership issue a clarification or retraction of any statements that imply an endorsement or support for Vice President Harris. The movement should uphold its commitment to remain uncommitted with regard to any candidate who does not align with our principles.
Restoration of Democratic Decision-Making: We urge the leadership to establish a transparent and democratic process that includes all members in making key decisions and public statements. This will ensure that the movement truly represents the collective will of its supporters.
Adoption of a Neutral Stance in the Election: We encourage the movement to adopt a policy of not endorsing any presidential candidate in the 2024 election, similar to the approach taken by the Teamsters. This stance would more accurately reflect our commitment to peace, justice, and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
