Restore critical funding for Legal Aid

We need your help. Mayor Bowser’s proposed 2024 budget includes catastrophic cuts to the Access to Justice Program which funds more than 40 percent of Legal Aid’s annual operating budget.

If this cut holds, it will have a deep and profound impact on Legal Aid and the clients we serve. We’ll have to cut staff in every single one of our practice areas and make even more agonizing decisions about which vulnerable District residents we can help and who we have to turn away. A tenant facing eviction? An abuse survivor seeking a protective order? A parent trying to secure custody of their child?

This will be the reality in 2024 if the funding is not restored. Please take one minute and email DC Council Chairperson Phil Mendelson, your Council Member, and the four At-Large Council Members.
