At this writing, the reconciliation package, which should be the United States' biggest step toward effective action on climate, still contains subsidies for fossil fuel companies. The bill is now headed for the House of Representatives Rules Committee, where members have the power to remove these harmful provisions. We have also learned that in the Senate, Majority Leader Schumer is working to build consensus among Democrats to pass the final bill without the subsidies.

Click "Start Writing" to send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, House Rules Committee Chair James McGovern, and—if you are in their districts—Committee members. Use and adapt our letter telling these representatives that subsidies for fossil fuel companies and collateral businesses MUST must be removed from the bill if the United States is to lead the way to a low-carbon future.
