Equitable, clean, and more resilient transportation for Rhode Island
.png)
Rhode Island is in crisis. Tailpipe emissions from our cars are poisoning our air and warming our climate. A recent report found that 119 deaths in 2016 alone were directly caused by vehicle emissions, and transportation is responsible for 36% of greenhouse gases.
Senate Bill 0872 will empower Rhode Island to participate in a regional Transportation & Climate Initiative program to invest $20 million annually in clean transportation - electric vehicles, better transit, and expanded walking/biking paths. We need these cleaner, safer alternatives to meet our 2030 Act On Climate goals. By investing in modes of transportation that don't require gasoline, we can also create more transportation choices for Rhode Islanders.
On June 16, the Senate Environment & Agriculture Committee passed S872 and it's been scheduled for a floor vote on June 22. Fossil fuel-backed opponents are waging a full-out misinformation campaign to stop this bill, and we need you to fight back.
