Save our School-Based Health Clinics!
SUNY Downstate plans to close all their School Based Health Centers including the clinics serving students at PS 38, MS 51, Brooklyn New School, Brooklyn Collaborative, Boerum Hill School, Digital Tech High School, D75 Star Academy, Success Academy Cobble Hill, PS 13, and Achievement First East New York Elementary. These clinics provide immunizations, adolescent health education and birth control, disease prevention and surveillance, urgent care, and mental health supports to children who might not otherwise have access. The level of care provided for students by the nurse practitioners and physicians assistants in these clinics is invaluable to our communities and cannot be replaced with DOE nurses. Closing these clinics would result in an enormous gap in health care in our communities. Please send this letter below urging SUNY Downstate to reverse this decision or keep these clinics open until another hospital partnership can be established.
