Unless we act quickly one of Eryri’s most iconic waterfalls, and wildlife sites, will be damaged forever. Use the form on the right to submit an objection.
The alarming news is that developers have submitted a planning application to build a dam on the Afon Cynfal and Llan Ffestiniog and divert as much as 70% of the available water* around the iconic waterfall of Rhaeadr y Cwm, as part of a hydro-electric scheme.
* The abstraction allows 70% over Q95 - a level set to ensure some water still bypasses the intake weir.
Three times over the past thirty years plans have been submitted for a hydro-electric scheme in Cwm Cynfal. Three times they have been either refused or withdrawn. But in July the developers formally submitted another application. The deadline for objections is 27 September.
Save Our Rivers, Snowdonia Society, Buglife and the North Wales Wildlife Trust have partenered to discuss and create an objection to the planning application which can be submitted using this tool, or by email to cynllunio@eryri.llyw.cymru
