Save the Porkies

EGLE is extending the public comment period regarding Copperwood Resources, Inc. proposed Permit to Install again until December 10, 2024. The public comment period began on September 26, 2024. The company wants to construct and operate a copper and silver mining and ore processing facility.

Any day now the Michigan House and Senate will vote on whether or not to award $50 million of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars to the proposed Copperwood Mine, an inexperienced foreign company's plan to mine next to and underneath our most beloved State Park, ship the copper to Canada, and leave behind 30+ million tons of toxic waste right next to Lake Superior. Sounds like a great use of taxpayer dollars, right?

There's a very good chance defeat the motion, but it will require all hands on deck!

The Senate has received the message — time to concentrate on the House

Join us in urging the Michigan House Appropriations Committee to REJECT the corporate welfare handout to Copperwood! All contact information is below.

Out of state residents encouraged to participate! Stress the importance of Michigan's reputation abroad and tourist dollars — remind them that outdoor recreation brings in over $12 billion to the state's economy annually; mining, just $1 billion.
