Say NO to HB84/SB53!

Stop HJR6!

Help stop this dangerous bill that lowers the minimum age for peace officers in Ohio from 21 to 18.

Contact your State Legislators and urge them to oppose this dangerous bill.

This week the Ohio House Homeland Security Committee and the Senate Government Oversight Committee is hearing Sponsor Testimony on this bill, which would lower the minimum age for peace officers from 21 to 18. Bill Co-Sponsor, Representative Demetriou, actually serves on the House Homeland Security Committee, the same committee where it was referred to for consideration — and the other Co-Sponsor, Senator Roegner, actually chairs the Senate Government Oversight Committee, the same committee where it was referred to for consideration.

As it stands, HB 84/SB 53 is a dangerous bill for our communities. We urge you to vote no on the way this bill stands today.

We do support amending the current statute referenced in this bill. Right now, peace officers ages 21 and older must pass a physical screening. We strongly urge the House Homeland Security Committee, the Senate Government Oversight Committee, and Bill Co-Sponsors Rep. Demetriou, Sen. Roegner, and others to amend this statute to include successfully passing a mental health screening as well for all peace officers in Ohio.
