Say Yes to Invest - Support $500 Million for Affordable Homes

Help us tell our State leaders that they must support an investment of $500 million in housing to expand access to safe, healthy, affordable homes for low income Rhode Islanders.

Due to decades of underinvestment and systemic barriers to development and access, Rhode Islanders are experiencing a housing shortage of serious magnitude. All Rhode Islanders are impacted, but the effects are not felt equally - according to the Gap Report published by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, we face a shortage of over 24,000 rental homes affordable and available to the lowest income households. Rhode Island only has 51 affordable and available rental homes for every 100 extremely low-income households – those with incomes at or below the poverty level or 30% of the area median income and housing costs keep rising.

The American Rescue Plan Act is an extraordinary one-time opportunity to make impactful investments in Rhode Island’s affordable housing stock and housing stability services. In January, Governor Dan McKee revealed his plan to invest $250 million dollars in housing and homelessness as part of his FY23 budget. This is a critical step forward. We are calling on State leaders to double this investment to be able to maximize the opportunity that ARPA funds provide.

Join us in calling on Rhode Island State Leaders to address our state’s vast housing needs and support a robust investment of $500 million in affordable housing and housing stability.
