Senator Fetterman, Keep Linda’s Family Together
Linda is a Pennsylvania mother facing separation from her 7-year-old daughter and husband, both U.S. citizens. After fleeing the men in Honduras who killed her sister, Linda was detained with her son at the infamous Berks family prison for 13 months. An immigration judge wrongly denied her asylum claim without having attended a single hearing. Now Linda has a final deportation order and is at risk of being permanently separated from her family.
Senator Fetterman’s office has been in contact with Linda since last summer, but ICE is still pushing for her to be deported. Senator Fetterman has the authority to introduce a “private bill” in Congress that would protect Linda from deportation. This was a tool to keep families together that members of Congress routinely used before the Trump administration. Senator Casey has told advocates that he will not introduce private bills for anyone as a matter of policy. ICE is separating families like Linda’s on President Biden’s watch with no accountability. Senator Fetterman has spoken out against family separation and family detention in the past. We ask him now to honor his commitment to immigrant families in Pennsylvania and introduce a private bill for Linda to keep her from being separated from her 7-year-old daughter.
