Speaker Heastie — Bring A1502 to a Vote

An individual can use over 16,000 feminine hygiene products over the course of their lifetime, including tampons, pads, or wipes. This opens their bodies to all types of chemicals and substances. The same ingredients that are found in a tampon are comparable to the same ingredients found in cigarettes!
The Ban Toxins in Menstrual Products Act (S1548 Fernandez / A1502 Rosenthal) will prohibit the use of certain toxic chemicals in menstrual products such as PFAS, talc, mercury and lead. All of these toxins are closely linked to resulting in cancer, contribute to fertility and reproductive challenges, reduce immune function, and interfere with hormones.
In the United States, 72 million girls, women and other people who menstruate between the ages of 15-49 rely on these products. Since these products are necessary for hygiene purposes, toxic free items should be made available to consumers, so they are not inevitably harmed by products that they frequently use for decades of their lives.
Banning toxic chemicals in menstrual and feminine hygiene products is necessary to protect consumers and relieve difficulties in identifying safe products for intimate use. This crucial legislation for women's health has already passed the Senate and the Health Committee in the Assembly. New Yorkers want this bill to be voted on ASAP. Please bring the Ban Toxins in Menstrual Products Act (S1548 Fernandez / A1502 Rosenthal) to the floor for a vote to get the most dangerous chemicals out of our menstrual products!
