Send a Letter to Stop Government Overreach & Protect Working Families
Write a letter to stop House Bill 241 and protect working families! H.B. 241 is an unnecessary attack on a voluntary agreement between management and workers.
Together, we can prevent...
(1) Unlawful government intrusion on the voluntary relationship between unions and union members
(2) Allowing the government to tell workers what they can and can't do with their own paycheck
(3) Allowing the government to tell workers where they can and cannot meet with fellow coworkers and where they can spend their time
(4) Government overreach and an attempt to undermine a century of labor stability and peace in Utah
Paycheck deductions are a simple, straightforward way for workers to contribute to numerous organizations they wish to support - unions are just one of these. This law adds an extra layer of bureaucracy and is a barrier to an open dialogue between workers and management.
Other organizations could be put at risk that advocate for their organizations, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, the United Way, and numerous charities across the state.
In every unionized public sector worksite in Utah - school districts, universities, cities, counties, state agencies, and more - management and workers have VOLUNTARILY negotiated that the employer will deduct dues for members from their paychecks.
Laws like H.B. 241 that seek to actively interfere with voluntary contractual relationships don’t create jobs. They attack the relationships between workers, unions and employers; and undermine trust between partners.
