STOP ILLEGAL FIREWORKS IN CALIFORNIA

FOR CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS ONLY

We the People of California are asking Committee Chair Jim Frazier to add SB277, an illegal fireworks bill, to the Assembly Government Organization Committee Agenda without delay. We also ask the GO Committee members vote in favor of passing this illegal fireworks bill.

Furthermore, we ask that subsequent Committees hearing SB 277 vote in favor of passing this important illegal fireworks legislation so that the Governor may sign it.

SB277 has already passed through the Senate unanimously. This bill requires no funding and is supported by the California Fire Chiefs Association.

California cannot afford to waste any time passing SB277, especially during a drought. The last time an illegal fireworks bill passed in California was 2007. With each passing year of inaction by our state legislature to address illegal fireworks, the danger has become disastrous, as evidenced by the Ontario and South LA explosions. In Jim Frazier’s own District, 40 people in Antioch were displaced over Memorial Day Weekend because of a fire started by illegal fireworks. SB277 is critical legislation that will benefit local communities and enable local law enforcement to do more.

As Californians we believe our voices count and when we speak up, elected officials should listen. Jim Frazier we are asking this illegal fireworks bill to be heard, bring SB277 to committee and put California back on track with tools the State Fire Marshal needs that will enable local law enforcement to combat illegal fireworks.
