Stop KOSA! Contact Your Senator!

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) represents yet another legislative threat to queer people and to the privacy rights of people online. The bill gives undue power to state attorneys general to arbitrate moderation of online content, and to decide what kind of content may cause distress to children, including basic historical, religious, or cultural information. The bill seeks to further erode online privacy rights, by forcing users to upload identity documents to access websites, which may include their own social media profiles. In a particularly heinous display of open transphobia, the bill's sponsor, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) stated she hoped the bill would censor transgender content from the web, including instructions on how to receive gender affirming healthcare.

We cannot allow this bill to pass, for the sake of our basic privacy rights, and for the health and safety of LGBTQ+ people online. That's why DSA's Queer Socialist Working Group is calling upon all comrades, LGBTQ+ people and our friends to make vocal your opposition to this harmful bill. Currently this bill has a swath of bipartisan support in the senate, but that can change with your voice!

You can use this form to express to your senators your opposition to KOSA, and for the health and safety of LGBTQ people of all ages. Let's fight like our lives depend on this!
