STOP THE TURNPIKE EXPANSION, FUND NJ TRANSIT! STOP THE 15% FARE HIKES!

The Murphy Administration and NJ Transit are planning to increase all NJ Transit fares by 15% with annual 3% increases thereafter. Just as bad, the fare increases will not fix NJ Transit’s underlying financial problems. In the following fiscal year, NJT is facing a far greater shortfall without a plan to fix it.

There is a simple way to avoid this year’s fare hike and future ones. Instead of spending $10.7 billion on the unneeded, unwanted and disastrous Turnpike expansion in Hudson and Essex Counties that will worsen traffic and increase pollution with even more cars and trucks on the road, NJ should repurpose that money for public transit.

Send a message to Governor Murphy, legislative leaders, and your legislators to stop the fare increases, halt further spending on the Turnpike Expansion, repurpose the Turnpike funds, and provide NJ Transit with stable dedicated funding to improve, expand and modernize our public transit system.
