Stop Urban Expansion Areas

Homes adjacent to farms and greenpsace along Miami Dade's Urban Development Boundary

Tuesday July 19th, the Board of County Commissioners will meet to discuss Items 11A1 changes to proposed Urban Expansion Areas (UEAs) that will accelerate the conversion of greenspace to favor developers. The proposed extension of an existing UEA and the Urban Expansion Area extension conspicuously overlaps the footprint of the giant Lennar Parkland-Grove housing development.

Item 11A1 Urban Expansion Areas include the larger existing Area (Top)
and an entirely new Area (Bottom)

Item 11A1 extends an existing Urban Expansion Area and immediately creates a new Urban Expansion Area designation outside of the normal proposal cycle.

The Coalition opposes this Item due to the lack of demonstrated need, the potential to destabilize our agricultural economy, and the fast-tracking of single family development at the expense of affordability solutions for our most cost-burdened residents.

Tell Commissioners to Vote No on Item 11A1 until these steps are taken and we have a consistent process for excluding our most sensitive areas and assessing the true value of all our county lands.
