Strengthen privacy protections for student data

Several bills have been introduced in Congress to strengthen privacy protections for student data, with more in the pipeline. If collected, personal student data must be protected, and only disclosed with great caution. If misused or breached, this could hurt a child’s prospects for life. Parents must be informed and involved throughout the decision-making process. Please send your letter urging members of Congress to incorporate five essential principles into any proposed federal legislation,  requiring full transparency, parental and student rights, security protections, a ban on commercial uses, and strong enforcement mechanisms.  Also, feel free to edit the letter any way you like, including why protecting student privacy is important to you. Thanks!
