Strengthen protections for Colorado Homeowners
Buying a home is the biggest investment most people ever make but Colorado currently has some of the weakest homeowner protections in the nation. Tell your elected official to vote YES on HB 1230, which will expand homeowners’ rights when it turns out their homes have construction defects.
All homeowners deserve access to safe housing and need to be able to hold builders accountable for major construction problems, regardless of their income level or zip code. Current Colorado laws favor builders and developers but we can shift that balance back and help homeowners who, through no fault of their own, have been left holding the bag.
HB 1230 gives homeowners better tools to get their homes fixed right because it:
Extends the time period a homeowner has to find and notify a builder about a construction defect to the national standard of 10 years
Increases the likelihood of homeowners recovering the full cost of repairs
Protects home buyers from illegal language in purchasing contracts that mislead them into thinking they have to recourse if they find construction defects in their home
We’re facing an uphill battle against opposition from builders – so ask your legislators to stand up for homeowners and vote YES on HB 1230.
