Support affordable housing and a new home for the Dance Loft

Since 2015 Dance Loft has made our home in a former 1920’s art-deco movie theater in uptown 14th Street NW. This building has been a place for the arts for nearly 100 years, and its unique beauty has been part of why we knew this was the place to put down roots.

After nearly a century of deferred maintenance, however, our building’s structural needs are escalating fast — faster than we could ever address or afford. At the same time, DC faces a crisis of affordable housing, particularly for multigenerational families. So we are undertaking something extraordinary.

Dance Loft on 14 has started the process of creating a new home for our work and many of our neighbors. Over the course of the last year we were able to purchase our building, and are now working to create a new mixed-use building with world-class arts and dance spaces on the ground floor and deeply affordable housing, including much-needed 3-bedroom apartments, above. See more details about the project.

We need your help to make this vision a reality. This spring the DC Zoning Commission will consider our project, and comments from the public make a big difference in whether we move forward. If you support community-based arts and affordable housing, use the form below to send a letter to the Zoning Commission today.
