I am writing in support of item 16D.

This measure would greatly benefit our entire community by making our streets safer for all road users for both residents and visitors.

We owe it to our children to restore the Safe Routes to School program, and help our residents get around our city safely, regardless of age, ability, or mode of transportation.

Despite all of the amazing progress our city has made to make our streets safer for all, traffic violence is still a significant issue we’re facing. In addition, motor vehicles are responsible for 68.5% of our greenhouse gas emissions. These issues were worsened by budget cuts made in 2020, that also caused us to lose many key city staff; and this item could help restore some of these vital assets.

If we want a safe, clean, sustainable Santa Monica, we must give people the ability to safely and efficiently get around our city, both inside and outside a car. Please support this item!
