Support Gannett journalists seeking to end pay disparities

Gannett members of NewsGuild-CWA

A pay equity study of nearly 450 Gannett journalists shows there are stark pay disparities for women and journalists of color. The study also shows that newsrooms are generally whiter than their communities.

The study was performed by NewsGuild members in 14 newsrooms who wanted to understand and reveal the depth of pay disparities in their newsrooms in an effort to begin correcting them.

We see the pay study as a first step. Now, Gannett needs to do more to understand, address and acknowledge the pay disparities among its staff.

Your note will go to top leadership at Gannett, top editors of the newsrooms represented in this study, as well as leaders of employee resource groups at the company — which, with more than 260 newsrooms, is the largest publisher of local news in the country.

In the tips for writing a letter to the company leadership, you'll find more information about key findings and out requests.
