Support Housing in Rockridge!
Oakland is in the midst of a severe housing shortage, displacement, and affordability crisis. It is essential that every community do its part to create more well-designed and well-located homes to alleviate our region's housing shortage. At 5212 Broadway, formerly the California College of the Arts campus, we have an opportunity to create 448 of these new homes that we need. Since 2017, the project team has worked with the community to create a project that will bring needed new homes, preserve historic architecture, and open up space for the community of Rockridge. Make sure the City of Oakland knows that pro-housing voices support this project!
The proposed project includes:
448 new homes in Rockridge, a historically exclusionary neighborhood which has seen scant new housing in decades. This includes a commitment to 48 affordable homes onsite.
Much needed housing near Rockridge's BART station, supporting transit in the neighborhood. This Is bolstered by commitment to 3X the required number of bike parking spaces.
Extensive historic preservation and reuse including repurposing primary components of the Victorian Treadwell Estate Era and preserving historic landscape with multiple redwood groves, coast live oaks, magnolia trees.
Community access to Macky Lawn, a nature playground, a terrace view deck, and meeting and event space within a historic building.
