The Federal Wage System (FWS) that regulates pay for hourly employees is in dire need of repair. Wage Grade (WG) employees often receive a smaller locality pay increase than General Service (GS) even though they live in the same areas and face the same increased cost of living. This is the result of an outdated system from the 1950’s that interferes with FWS pay area designations, causing a further imbalance of pay between the two systems.
