Support the Creation of a new Transit District in Redwood City!

Redwood City and the rest of the Bay Area have a severe housing shortage, displacement, and affordability crisis. More well-designed and well-located homes must be built to alleviate our region’s housing problems.
That’s why the Housing Action Coalition and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group are proud to support the creation of the Transit District where the Sequoia Station Shopping Center and existing Redwood City Transit Center currently is located. Creating the Transit District would lead to the creation of desperately needed housing right by updated retail space and high-quality public transportation.
Send a letter to the Redwood City City Council to express your support for the Transit District by simply clicking on the “START WRITING” button, and a form letter will appear that you can send as-is or edit.
Some of the benefits of the Transit District include:
Developing walkable communities and building much needed housing. The Transit District would add up to 1,100 new homes, with a minimum requirement of 20% of these homes designated for affordable housing. Residents would have accessible amenities and public transportation, reducing a need for cars and overall vehicle miles traveled (VMT) which would support Redwood City in meeting their sustainability goals.
Connecting Redwood City to the rest of the Bay Area. The Transit District would allow for the transformation of the Redwood City Caltrain station by expanding the station to four tracks and improving its connection to buses.
Creating an amenity and service-rich area for the community. The creation of the Transit District would allow city leaders and the community to reimagine the layout of the station and its surrounding area. Potential improvements include an updated retail space, a grade separation so that cars, bikes, and pedestrians can cross over or under the tracks without having to wait, and improved bike lanes.
Send a letter to urge the Redwood City City Council to move this project forward!
