Mike Huckabee, the former governor and current conservative TV personality is unfit to be the US Ambassador to Israel. His clear embrace of Christian Zionism and Christian Nationalism should disqualify him from serving in this position, and as Christians committed to living into the loving and liberatory roots of our tradition, it is imperative that we speak out.

His opinions are rooted in an anti-Muslim and antisemitic end-times theology, which asserts that the State of Israel should take over more land, expel non-Jews, and participate in ceaseless wars to bring about the second coming of Jesus. These dangerous ideas have real-world consequences. As ambassador, Huckabee would undermine efforts toward peace and justice in the region, and dismiss the rights and humanity of Palestinians entirely.

Huckabee’s Christian Zionism is part of his racist, homophobic, and repressive White Christian Nationalist beliefs. Giving him more power in any position puts all of us at risk.
