Extreme MAGA Republicans in the US House of Representatives are trying to pass a new law that would raise gas prices and jack up climate change emissions.

Why would Republicans (who say they are all about fighting inflation and reducing prices) do such a thing? As our friend and climate hawk Rep. Sean Casten explains - because they don't work for the American people, they work for the fossil fuel industry.

The quick briefing for busy climate hawks is that the House GOP wants to pass a bill saying that if President Biden wants to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, he has to lease more public land to oil and gas companies.

But as Rep. Casten explains, that's a crazy, backwards plan. The US is already a net energy exporter, and taxpayers already paid to put oil into the SPR. That means that releasing oil from the SPR will help bring prices at the pump down, but only if it isn't offset by more (and more expensive) new drilling and extraction.
