Tell Congress to Protect Federal Funding

The Trump administration recently issued a sweeping memorandum that sought to pause federal grants and loans, creating widespread confusion and uncertainty. Though a final list of affected programs was not made public, reports indicate that hundreds of critical initiatives could have been impacted, including many that serve older adults and people with disabilities.

The administration rescinded the memo after significant public outcry and litigation halted it temporarily. We welcome this reprieve. The administration’s reckless attempt to intercept funding already promised to states, businesses, nonprofits, and communities across the country would have damaged local economies and imperiled access to needed services and supports. However, these risks remain, as the executive orders on which the freeze was based remain intact. The White House may try again to implement them by restricting federal aid in ways that harm the health and well-being of millions of Americans.

We Need a Permanent Fix

In the coming days, public action and vocal opposition will be critical. The administration may issue a new memo or take other steps to prevent federal aid from flowing. Weigh in today, urging your members of Congress to publicly push back on any such policies, and encourage your community to do the same. We must all work together to ensure a funding freeze does not take effect.
