Tell DC Government and Children's National Medical Center: No Ban on Care for Trans Kids

Tell DC Leaders: Restore Gender-Affirming Care for Trans Youth!
Children’s National Hospital (CNMC) has paused all gender-affirming care for Transgender youth in response to a harmful executive order from Donald Trump. This decision leaves vulnerable patients without essential, evidence-based healthcare—putting their well-being and lives at risk.
This is unacceptable! Transgender youth deserve care, not political attacks.
DC has some of the strongest legal protections for Transgender people in the country. Under the DC Human Rights Act, discrimination based on gender identity is illegal—yet this decision to deny care to Trans youth is exactly that: discrimination.
We are calling on three key decision-makers to take immediate action:
Attorney General of Washington DC, Brian Schwalb – Issue public guidance affirming that denying care based on gender identity is unlawful under DC’s anti-discrimination laws.
Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, Wayne Turnage – Use the full authority of your office to ensure this care is reinstated.
CEO of Children’s National Hospital, Michelle Riley-Brown – Reverse this harmful decision and resume gender-affirming care immediately.
New York’s Attorney General has already taken a stand, making it clear that hospitals in that state cannot legally deny this care. DC must do the same.
By signing this email action, you are telling DC’s leaders that Transgender youth’s rights and lives are not up for debate. These officials need to hear from all of us—parents, patients, providers, and allies—that we demand action now.
Add your name today and help us send a clear message: Restore gender-affirming care in DC. Protect Trans youth.
