Tell Governor Murphy to be a climate leader, not a climate follower!

Tell Governor Murphy that the time to take action and declare a moratorium on fossil fuel projects is now, or he risks being a climate follower, not a climate leader. Send him an email to tell him to be a climate leader and take the steps necessary to end our reliance on fossil fuels by enacting an immediate moratorium on fossil fuel projects in New Jersey.

A report was recently released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the body that advises world governments on energy policy, calling on world leaders to acknowledge the reality that their pledges to reach net zero carbon emissions will require rapid and drastic action. The IEA is not a grassroots organization or an environmental group. It is a body respected by energy companies and investors who use its reports to make strategic decisions.

The IEA notes that government leaders are not taking the steps they need to take right now to reach the long term reductions in greenhouse gas emissions that are necessary to avert climate catastrophe. Goals set for a distant clean energy future are meaningless if they aren’t tied to immediate actions and steps towards those goals. Notably, the IEA report says nations should stop approving new oil and gas fields or new coal mines or mine expansions. It calls for a dramatic near-term deployment of clean energy infrastructure instead.

The policies that were once cutting edge are becoming mainstream. The solutions called for by environmental leaders are now laid out in reports designed to guide global investors. It is not enough for Governor Murphy to say that New Jersey has bold clean energy goals. He must take concrete steps towards achieving those goals RIGHT NOW. Tell him to be a climate leader and take the steps necessary to end our reliance on fossil fuels by enacting an immediate moratorium on fossil fuel projects in New Jersey.
