Tell legislators not to allow Big Insurance to strip victims of their legal rights

Big Insurance is trying to strip victims of their legal rights.

Big insurance companies are raising rates and raking in record profits. At the same time, they are blaming victims for the high cost of insurance to justify their deplorable effort to strip consumers of their legal rights. Louisiana families and small businesses have learned the hard way that insurance companies cannot be trusted to do right by their policyholders.

The people peddling this misinformation are the same band of industry lobbyists who promised in 2020 that robbing people of their legal rights would lower insurance rates. But as we know all too well, insurance rates have skyrocketed every year since.

Contact your legislators now and urge them to vote against anti-consumer legislation that guts policyholder protections and legal rights, making it harder to hold big insurance companies accountable.

Big auto insurance companies want to steal the healthcare benefits you worked and paid for!

HB 423 would repeal the collateral source rule. The collateral source rule allows victims injured through no fault of their own to recoup their medical expenses as well as their healthcare premiums, which were used to negotiate discounted medical costs on their behalf. Repealing the collateral source rule would allow big auto insurers representing a driver who injures you in an accident to use your health insurance to negotiate discounted rates on their behalf.

When it comes to the insurance industry, what’s good for the goose apparently isn’t good for the gander.

The insurance industry and its powerful lobby are trying to repeal direct action, an important consumer protection. HB 337 would repeal direct action. Repealing direct action won’t lower insurance premiums. However, it will stack the deck in favor of the insurance industry, making it so Louisiana families and small businesses can be sued, but big insurance companies cannot.
