In the midst of the ever-worsening climate emergency, the fossil fuel industry is pushing A1462/S2275, the unaffordable dirty gas bill. This bill would hand billions of dollars in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, paid for by New Jersey ratepayers, for mis-named “renewable” natural gas (RNG). Despite industry claims, RNG ("Renewable natural” gas) perpetuates reliance on fossil fuels, increases hazardous and climate-harming air pollution, is incredibly energy inefficient, is extraordinarily expensive and totally unnecessary. We can’t let fossil fuel companies profit off of ratepayers’ backs, overburdened communities' lungs, and their damage to our climate.

Fortunately, our legislators have a better option. Another bill, the Clean Energy Standard (S237/A1480), would pave the way for 100% squeaky clean energy, if the necessary amendments are made to protect clean air, environmental justice communities, and in-state jobs.

The Legislature must reject the unaffordable dirty gas bill, and instead strengthen the clean energy standard bill.
