Tell our members of Congress: Support citizenship for immigrant essential workers

As Congress negotiates the details of a budget package to pass before the end of the year, they must include citizenship along with jobs, care, and climate in order to achieve a recovery that is truly equitable and inclusive for all, regardless of background or birthplace.

ore than 5 million undocumented immigrants have been risking their lives as “essential workers” during the worst public health crisis in our lifetime. It is a moral failure that millions of immigrant workers are considered “essential” —and yet at the same time “deportable.” Essential workers without permanent legal status should be recognized as the Americans they already are.

Conservatives have for years blamed immigrants for the woes of low-income Americans, rather than corporations and the ultra-wealthy who dodge their taxes and pay poverty wages in a race to the bottom. The fact of the matter is, immigrant workers only make our country stronger. They have been here, contributing to our communities, throughout the pandemic, it's time for us to show them the support they deserve.
